Kitchen Nightmare

Kitchen Nightmare

The kitchen started out looking like a lumberjack’s wet dream with all the wood cabinets. The kitchen was so dark and gloomy that we did a complete demolition and rebuild. We stripped the floor all the way down to the under floor and placed brand new plywood which gave the floor a nice flat base. We used large white tiles and they were placed in a straight pattern because at the time, I was a not confident cutting tile.

Italian Stone

We placed dark, stained cabinets with molding around the top and bottom. We added metal handles to all the doors to compliment our stainless steel appliances. We found some Italian stone heavily discounted and decided to add some backsplash around the sink and oven, which made for a beautiful contrast with all the dark cabinets.

Premium Space

The kitchen is very small so space is at a premium so wherever possible we found additional storage with under cabinet hooks and baskets. We also added pull out drawers to the bottom cabinets for easy access. Instead of having a fixed island we decided to buy an island on wheels so that we could rearrange the kitchen depending on how much space we needed. Overall not a great job but a damn improvement over the brown and gloomy kitchen that stood before it.
